All,

For anyone who may enjoy perusing Parthian coin pics, I wanted to bring the following to your attention. A collector who goes by the handle of "Schatz" is in the midst of posting her extraordinary collection of Parthian coins over at Forvm. See:
http://www.forumancientcoins.com/ga...hp?cat=24483

With a collection this large, Schatz is wisely opting to categorize coins from different periods in Parthian history. Thus there are "Early Parthian" folders, Parthian "Dark Age" folders, and - in progress now - Parthian "Middle Period" folders. There are about 250 coins uploaded as of this writing, with the entire second half of Parthian history still remaining!

While the collection includes coins that are quite common and easily obtained, it also includes many very rare varieties, in some cases with great provenance provided (e.g. ex-Todd Ballen collection, ex-David Sellwood collection, ex-Bellaria Collection, etc.). Several Sellwood and Shore plate coins are included too. It is truly shaping up to become a major resource for the study of this coinage.

I encourage the Parthian-appreciators who frequent this board to leisurely tour Schatz's gallery. Having said that, I'd like to provide links to several coins that I think have real "WOW" factor - just to whet your appetite...these are jaw-droppers for me:

You know, Chris, it's very funny to me that you would highlight this coin. Just earlier today Schatz and I exchanged a couple of messages at Forvm, and here is a cut-and-paste from the one I had sent - this passage, written just a few hours ago, was inspired by that very coin:

"Fyi, about a year and a half ago, I was helping a local dealer attribute a large batch of Parthians. I had first pick at anything I wanted to purchase, at the great prices he always gives me for helping him out. There was a Sellwood 42.2 in the batch (Nike crowning Orodes obverse). In either a very dumb - or very ethical - moment, I told him about its rarity and suggested he do some research and list it at an appropriate price - which he promptly did (and, naturally, it sold immediately). Thing is, I could have told him it was common (he had no clue) and walked away with it for probably about fifty bucks. Oh well. One of those many "what if" moments we collectors encounter. But, I'll tell you, it's been on my mind ever since!"

That is quite a resource to have right here, in the CCF!
I have some older information published in Percy Gardners' book:
'The Coinage of Parthia' copyright 1968 publ. San Diego,
but that info. now updated by later research.
