Is it rare to have a 1878 Six Pence Die 6 without DR error? Thanks

You can not see it very well in the picture but the die#6 has a loop under it. The grading company would not call it an error. Any thoughts?...Thanks

Dyan

I am not an expert but as far as I am aware all Dritanniar errors are die 6 but not vice versa. It also appears that for this coin die 6 over a lower 6 is normal hence the loop under the die number. Also FYI these coins were for use in Cyprus.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chip in, if not try the Predecimal Forum http://www.predecimal.com/forum/

Thanks for the input. I'm not an expert on sixpence, but I have not seen a 6 without the DR. I thought it was interesting-so I had it graded. Thanks again!

Here's a quote from a Victoria silver die number topic on predecimal

"There are quite a few more examples of this with the 1878 DRIT Sixpence which is die 6 (there is also a standard BRIT die 6)etc etc."

Is there a reference that lists which die numbers are known for each date ?

Disappointingly, English Silver Coinage lists only the highest die number known.
