I ran across this issue of Numismatic News earlier today. There were quite a few interesting articles but I just couldn't believe the prices they were selling coins for "back then". Here are a few pics of what I am talking about.

I wonder what dealers will be selling these same coins for 40 years from today? Anyway.... I thought I would share a few pages with you guys.

I picked a few old price guides up at a garage sale a couple years ago. Its fun to go through those old price guides and see what things use to go for. It can be a helpful tool if your looking for trends too.

Thanks for this great bit of nostalgia. Interesting to note that, as always, the highest grades of the scarcest dates have appreciated the most over this 40-year period. But even these increases are dwarfed by the staggering gains registered since then by scarce-to-rare issues in many 19th c. series (Bust, Seated, etc.) which were hardly collected back then. As much money as I put into this kind of thing in the 70s, I should have put in much, much more.
