What would be considered a high shutter count? I'm speaking for a good quality, historically reliable used camera. Would 10 to 15 thousand be considered risky? Borderline? Thanks

Depends on the category. For a high-end full-frame dSLR, Canon 5D for instance, six-figure shutter actuations are the norm and you should expect the camera to perform into that territory. "Lesser" dSLR's like the Canon Rebels should be good into the 50,000+ range at least. I'm not sure what if any info is available from point-and-shoots for shutter actuation, but wouldn't be surprised if the industry considered 50k snaps to be a realistic goal.

I have a Rebel XS that going strong at 150k. Most of the ones I buy to integrate into systems are low-mileage of less than 10k, which I consider essentially new.
