I received 3 auction preview catalogs for the auctions that Stack's Bowers is currently hosting. (They are the July 201 Baltimore Auction of US coins, The Twin Leaf Collection of Large Cents, and the Douglas C. Kaselitz Collection). These are really nice catalogs and getting them mailed to me was a complete surprise!

I am trying to figure out why I received them. I have won a grand total of one auction at Stack's for less than $400 about a year and a half ago. A couple weeks ago when these auctions opened, I did add several very expensive coins to my watchlist, strictly because I was interested in seeing their prices (I don't have the budget to buy these coins in any case). I wonder if this is why I received these catalogs? Has anyone else ever received surprise auction preview catalogs before?

Rest in Peace

Tagging coins on the watch list will sometimes result in free catalogs of those upcoming sales.

I admit that on occasion I've done watches just to get the neat catalogs. Sometimes it works because the auction house agreed to a minimum catalog dispersal when setting the terms of consignment.

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I will try this method a bit more and see if it works out. These catalogs are awesome!
