Friends, at the start of the 2015 year I made a conscious effort to keep track of exactly what I was finding, and how much I searched. Also I had just decided to really ramp up the volume around October of 2014, so this was a really good time to start. so I decided to take a look at my 6 months in review, and I think they are probably going to be skewed because I was lucky on 3 occasions finding multiple rolls of solid silver, but cest la vie. some stats: 1 Silver quarter per $69 Searched $4273/week searched 1 Silver dime per $96 Searched $1904/ week searched I don't think I will maintain these rates of finding silver, unless I am extremely lucky and happen upon more estate dumps.

Almost 263 oz of silver...
DANG! At approximately $16 an oz, you have about $4,200+ in silver.... That's crazy.

Even if you did get lucky, that is a LOT of silver found, I used to CRH back when I just started collecting (I think I was 13yrs old at the time) and I had the luck of finding 3 1967 quarters from searching probably $400 worth of them and no silver dimes after searching probably $250 worth of those.

Geez... very nice finds. I am at about 1.12 silver halves per box and at a box a week... in a year that only comes to 8 and a half ounces in an entire year! :D Very nice and hope you continue to have good luck (and save some luck for me too ;P)!

thanks guys, like I said late last year I decided to basically make this a second job. I work hard on saturday and sunday to get as much as possible and then throughout the week after work.
the stats don't include any of the numismatics I have found, or a sterling 50 cent piece I found as well.
last year and a half I was really working the bank relationships, most of my pick up banks offer me only CWR, so these are the only rolls that I actually hunt through.
Like I said this is really a volume game.
you can see on the sheet, I have a junk roll list, this is stuff I dont search, rolls that are all new coins, mint wrapped, or machine wrapped.

How much time have you invested in this? Also, have you tracked your other costs (fuel, vehicle maintenance, hand soap , etc.)? Can you give us a break down of how many ounces per hour you've found? Although, very FUN, I bet it really is a wash once you factor all of your costs into this, but like I said, I bet it is super fun!

Ace those are some great numbers!
Do Canadian crh'ers have an advantage due to the fact that ALL the edges look silver? Do you date search, sound search or magnet hunt, just curious.

Matt the reilly, I am not going to debate the economics of CRHing.
Fistfull, for me the entire coin, rim and all normally stands out and as I slide the coins out I can tell right away that I have silver. the silver coins look white compared to the nickel coins, or the newer plated steel coins. date wise - anything pre 68 is silver, and then the 68's might be 50%, so I do have a magnet to check these.
I have found a few post 68 silver coins, one 1997 silver quarter (.925) and a 1997 silver dime (.925) but again, these stood out like a sore thumb.

Wow!
Are you searching the nickel/steel coins for errors/varieties? I would be tempted to just run a magnet over the pile to search them more quickly.

Finn, I am not looking for any minor error (small rotations, double dies etc) if they are noticeable, or if there are years that have specific varieties then yes I do look for those, but I don't waste my time looking through rolls of 2015 coinage looking for a possible error.
as for running a magnet over the newer coins, I have only heard of this "error" happening with the pennies, the quarters and dimes were never cupro-nickel, so any pre 68 will be silver and any newer coins that are silver will stick out like a sore thumb.
I suppose it might be possible for a non magnetic nickel error in the earlt 200's but again I have never heard of one.
in December I will roll out a montage of my yearly finds, and I will update the year end totals.
