Going on memory...the AU examples were between $275-$290. I know I have a AU55 1915 on the way and I paid $275 for.

What would be a decent price for a 1914 AU example graded by either NGC or PCGS?

Maybe $375. You know I see price for the 1911D Strong D in VF condition $2350. That is expensive, but doable compared to other gold eagles. All the coins are scarce and have low mintage and you can get average coin in EF for less than $300. The only coin I would send for grading would be the 1911D. I think they look better in the Capital coin holder. Then you should put them in a safe deposit box. A thief would go wild over those coins or a home invader.

Connor - Thanks for these great pics. But let me say, you will enjoy owning the 11D more than all the rest of them put together.
Rest in Peace

Wonderful pictures of enviable coins and very good advise on the collecting of that series. I myself like NGC best for the gold, not only because I do appreciate the very close range they grade within, but also because I simply like the look of the gold against the white.

I am sure I will end up with the 11d one day...it just may be a while. I have decided the next one in this series I am going to go after is the 1914 Indian.

I agree that gold in NGC slabs looks very nice.
