Any help would be appreciated. I just purchased this 1880 S Morgan listed as Choice BU. The luster on the obverse and reverse is intact, matches on both sides but does have a pinwheel swirl when pivoted in light.
Under a 10x jewelers loop I cannot see any whizzing swirls, or discoloration of any kind. It does have some surface scratches mostly on the obverse but otherwise looks spotless until you get to the date and the 2 stars to each side of the date. There is very light tarnish under the stars, and the date has a distinct tarnish shadow underneath it. Should I assume that this coin was dipped and gripped in those spots?
So assuming the coin was lightly or properly dipped, has the value diminished by much? The coin did retain it's luster and only has the smallest amounts of tarnish. Would it be worth getting professionally graded?
Sorry for writing a book. Just trying to give details.
Thanks.
