Hi,

So on ebay, I notice a lot of sellers are advertising their coins as an OBV4 (for example), when it is really a less expensive OBV5 coin that they have. I've sent a messages to a few of these sellers to fix their mistakes but they don't seem to do anything about it. At this point, do you just report the item/seller?

Thanks,

ebay does not care...
I lost count on how many times I reported sellers selling FAKE errors made from uncut currency after the seller refuses to correct their listing..
There is even one seller sending his fake errors to PCGS and having his notes Certified with the Notation of it cut from a sheet... He then sells it as Genuine currency...
If Bidders are that ignorant to learn real from fake errors, I say "Let them learn the hard way when they go to sell it".
Very few sellers are honest enough to either change or end their listing when advised, most others are crooks..

Buy it, receive the item, report it as item not as described, send it back. Time consuming, but hurt them where it counts, seller ratings and bank account. If every serious collector did this 1x month, eventually they will pack up shop or change their ways.

I could not disagree with that idea more. Kind of the whole 'two wrongs don't make a right' kind of thing. Plus, not everyone who considers themselves to be a 'serious collector' knows what they are talking about. The LAST thing that would make the ebay experience better would be a group of self appointed 'accuracy vigilantes' buying and returning items.

You can report them if it makes you feel better. Just recognize that ebay only cares about things that they are financially liable for and everything else gets minimal attention. If the seller doesn't respond to your concern then add them to your 'do not buy from' list and move on. Lots of honest sellers out there. One of them will eventually list another example of what you're looking for.

Any reputable seller will take the comment under advice and make the appropriate changes. On a few occasions potential buyers have pointed out an error or two in my listings and I either corrected it or removed it. As a side comment, potential buyers tend to point out listing errors that over price the coin or are in favour of the seller. They rarely do it if the coin is wrongly attributed to the benefit of the bidder. They just bid on it and hope no one else notices!!
