Cannot vote either because US coins are foreign. I primarily collect domestic pieces, that is euro coins. But also (modern) coins from the US, the UK, Switzerland - in those cases it's mostly circulation pieces and selected commems. Coins from outside Europe and North America I do not actively collect. Well, I may make an exception here and there ... Christian

World coins, hands down, are far more interesting to me than US coins. I look at them and marvel at the different designs, the different denominations. I wonder at the history behind each coin; the people who's hands have held it. How did I end up with it? US coins I pull one of each denomination out each year, but I don't put much money into American coins. They never caught my interest the way world coins have.

I concentrate on silver pandas and silver lunars, especially the ones made by the PRC. Would love to find others looking for these coins.

In 25 plus years of collecting I would say my collection is about 85% US. We travel a lot and I ALWAYS try to bring back a good selection of BU coins and crisp lower denomination banknotes from the countries we visit. I also encourage friends that are traveling to bring me a handful of coins and bills from the places they visit. I tell them, just pick small denominations that only total $5 or so, and pick items that look new, or items that you got from a bank. $5 translates into a lot of specimens from some countries!

Being Aussie, I collect mainly Australian coins. Have a few bits and pieces from many other parts of the world, but just what shows up in change and a few bulk world coin lots from ebay. Sorry MLFLY, but your post, at first, shocked me. quote: My wife is a very casual collector and does animals.
I'm glad I read on further for the qualifier. I'm sorry, I must just have a dirty mind .

I collect whatever catches my eye. I would like to collect British coins and old U.S. coins, but like what I said, whatever catches my eye.

Well intially I started out with just US coins. I slowly made my way into World coins and also made my way into world currency. In the past 7 or 8 years I have not bought any US coins, besides annual proof sets. And I have my main focus on world currency at the moment. Of course that could change at any time. I have wanted to collect older US currency, but the prices are just to high for me.
