An example of outstanding customer service would be to give the customer what they wanted. But the bottom line is, seeing something doesn't make it yours.
When I was a cashier, I had all sorts of odd requests. Lots of people would gun for my halves; others would shove them back and refuse them. One customer asked for all of his change in dollar bills and quarters. I tried to be as accommodating as possible, but it was ultimately my judgment call to say "no" if a customer wanted 57 $1 bills from my till, or for me to dig through to see if I had any bicentennial quarters.
Technically speaking, the teller doesn't even have to take your request for specific denominations, as long as they are giving you what is due.
You have to cultivate a relationship when you find one, or move to a different window if you don't. Get to know the head teller at a small local branch. They have access to everything and are sometimes, cough, looking for a fence. Seriously.
