A friend recently asked me to help her sell her coins and I want to make sure to get her a fair price for them. The dimes, quarters and halves are pretty easy.. I figured melt value for those.. but the dollars and that $10 gold coin arent as simple. The Peace dollar looks cleaned, and the 1921 morgan is pretty common, and as far as I know the 1897 isn't anything special either. I have no idea what to look for with this $10 gold coin however.. I found a few sources online that say it should get between $530 and $550, but I dont want to miss something. What should I expect to get for these?

There are actually 12 dimes, but I cropped some out. None of them are anything special.

You can sell them auction style here on ccf. She will get a fair price and and you wont have to pay fees and such.

Good advice! The 1899 is a common date, and with gold in something of a downward spiral, you probably won't get $550 currently. Everything else straightforward. Good luck.

Agree on the gold pricing.
Not that I can make an offer, but IF I could offer, I wouldn't offer $550 with gold at around $1100/oz. Probably closer to $500.
Melt value today is $532.12 with gold at exactly $1100.00 now that I look.

So, if I were to just buy them from her myself, about $600 for the lot would be fair?

Yes that is a fair and friendly price for both parties I would think.
I'd still check the gold coin for authenticity friend or not. She could have been passed a fake without knowing. Just check the weight and diameter of the coin.

I absolutely think that is a fair and ethical offer.

$600 for the lot should make you both happy.

But as the devil on your shoulder, I must remind you that you are simply buying bullion at that price, and will pay some sort of commission when you sell. Which direction in prices are you betting?

I knew that's what you were thinking Naturally.. I would be a failure as a coin collector if I didn't immediately think of keeping them for myself. It seems like an honest coin, and weighs quite a bit, so I would be surprised if it isn't genuine gold. I will weigh it tonight. Which direction in prices are you betting? I dont expect to sell any coins for the next 45 years or so.. by then I'd hope prices would have gone up. If nothing else, I would have forgotten how much I paid for them by then.

If that's how you want to spend your money, putting bullion away for decades, then this is the perfect start.

Stipulating that the Eagle is authentic - I see no real red flags arguing against it - the price is fair and your intent/plans for the coins are intelligent. This is a worthy purchase. However, you're taking a chance on the gold; raw gold is always a risk.

I am 99.999% sure the eagle is real. Counterfeits almost never look that worn and baggy. Weigh it and measure it if you are not sure. If everything checks out, then I am sure the coin is genuine.

I don't see why this eagle would be anything but real. Nice addition to your collection for sure
