oih82w8 got me looking at my San Diego, so I snapped some new photos of her and thought I'd get your thoughts on it's grade. It's housed in an older NGC holder currently.

Thanks for your input as always!

MS63 or 4, details.
Those minor black sulphide spots don't help.

The '35s San Diego is an important coin in my life.
I have a daughter-in-law who grew up in SD, she now lives in Sydney.
I have stood in the very spot on the bridge in Balboa Park from which this scene was taken.
With a careful use use of Google Maps, terrestrial option, you can do the same! There has been some modifiaction with the buildings in the scene, since 1935.

I, too, have an example of this half commemorative.

I'm not a fan of the toning ... but each of us develops our own numismatic eye and to that I say ... to each their own.

Technical grade IMHO is MS64/MS65. I don't see a lot of chatter or bag hits ... the dark areas might be covering some up?

A bit concerned about what appears by photograph to be hairlines on the reverse ... look in the fields around the date and to the left of the dome.

If so ... MS Details (cleaned).

Hopefully those are on the holder and not the coin!

Best - David

Yes, these are not on the coin surface. I believe the camera picked up some light scratches on the slab.

Beautiful coin, I love how they incorporated the architecture into the coin-makes it come to life!

Google Maps,
Balboa Park, San Diego:
If you place the little orange man on the bridge of the El Prado road about 100 yards east of the tower and look west, you will be in the reverse of this coin.

You will also be able to see what buildings have changed.

Great coin and great pictures.
A question...
How do you compose photos?
What program do you use?
Mirror effect is fantastic
Thank you
