http://www.ebay.com/itm/1914-D-Linc...em4aeda0c4e6I posted pictures of this cent in the previous post I made. Absolutely ridiculous. Apparently the guy will have no remorse if he sells the coin for $195 BIN, knowing it's a fake. Maybe someone could PM him again and tell him.

Im a beginner here. Could you please tell me how you determined this to be a fake? The seller has 100% positive feedback which means the coin may very likely sell.

Don't message seller, just report it.
Reported.
edit: Sorry Matt, wasn't being harsh about messaging some sellers who innocently might have a bad listing. This seller has relisted a coin that was already removed once. Ed

Is it my tablet, or does the second #1 look like it was originally a #4 , plus the first #1 is smaller... I tried zooming in to check for the "vdb" but the picture was fuzzy... I still believe it it a altered 1944D... I don't think ebay cares about fakes, as everyone I reported selling fake errors from uncut currency still sells their fakes...

Papadoc75,; the coin listed as 1914-d is an altered 1944-d. the first 4 is shaved down to look like a 1. quite a common occurrence. believe it or not.

Thanks for the info T-Bop. It's unfortunate that sellers are allowed to get away with this. It's a good thing there are forums like this where collectors can get educated on these subjects, instead of learning the hard way by getting ripped off.

From the seller: Quote: Local dealer said its legit. If what you say is true it should be on display and used in teaching. Bought in box of coins from a 90 year old man at a sale. I do thank you for your input.

At least he's consistent: Quote: Local dealer said its legit. Got it at estate sale of 90 year old man. Looks good. If its a fake they did a good job and it should be on display and used in teaching coin grading. Thanks for input. I don't know everything. Do you?

These shaved 4s are so easy to ID with the spacing plus you can almost always see the ghosted triangle
