ICG gave it an MS60, which IMO is meaningless. Strike weakness would put it at MS62 or 63, wear would put it at AU 55 or 58. I lean toward AU. I'll take it to the next local coin show, more eyes on it won't hurt. Thanks everyone for your opinions.

Quote: ICG? I found the problem What problem? I doubt many of us buy coins bases solely on the opinion of ICG or any other TPG.

I have several Morgans in ICG slabs. The most recent was a retro black insert that looks really nice. I actually like their holder design over all others.

Looks 63 all day long and twice on Tuesday. I wonder what gives, we must not be seeing something with those pics

... Actually, I bet they mistook it for circulation wear and thought they were being generous. Now that's hilarious

Holders from any but the top 2 TPGs are notoriously inconsistent. Gee whiz, I wonder why.

My images of large silver coins are awful. In hand, it's still a close call, at least for my eyes. CartwheelCollector, sorry if I came off a bit defensive. Truth be told I was.

ICG must not have read the book. Most 79-O Morgans were circulated for a few months and then reclaimed and rebagged by the banks. they remained in these bags until the 60's-70's. There were some bags that remained uncirculated or in other words 79-O's can be found uncirculated fairly easily although they should exhibit good luster and a good strike. There are thousands upon thousands of AU examples for the reason I stated above.

There is nothing wrong with coins in IGC slabs, but I sure would not trust their grading opinion. This coin is a nice example of why.

MS60 can be a really baggy uncirculated coin or a market graded very lightly circulated coin.

Yeah, but unfortunately this coin exhibits circulation nicks,(small little nicks) not bag marks. The nicks on this coin are not sharp like bag marks in my eyes.

"market graded very lightly circulated coin."
That is what AU58+ is for.
