Poll Question
Since many years I collect coins - actually it started all with a 1979 Griffon which I received as a birthday present. Yes at that time the coins were round and consisted out of the bare metal.

These days these round coins shiny coins are less than 20% from a monthly RCM release. What is your opinion were these "enhancements" taking control of RCM´s production an improvement? What are your preferences?

Poll Choices
Round and bare metal I like most
Round and colors are my favorite
Shapes and metal cant be beaten
Shapes, colors cant get enough of it
 Variety & creativity are top
I do not care as the coin looks nice

I'm a US coin collector, but I have some canadian coins (over a roll of pennies, maybe $5 in other coins...) and i'd say that my favorite thing the Canadian mint makes are the bare, round coins. Colorization is something that should be done post mint by third party companies.

Maybe I'm a traditionalist, but I like coins that look like coins,
not tokens or medals.
Just my opinion though, I'm sure many NCLT collectors will disagree.

The occasional colored coin is sometimes neat, like the Canadian Poppy quarter dollars...however, I don't own one. I did find a Canadian War of 1812 commemorative quarter with a colored maple leaf and I think it's pretty cool.

So long as they don't over do it and make the colored portion small-ish, than it looks nice in my opinion. However, the RCM seems to not be doing that...

I'm on both sides of the camp. For circulation coins I tend to agree with @Groszy. But for NCLT I consider them more artistic than coins and so the appropriate use of colour, shape and inlays is more acceptable to me than on the circulation side. That being said, yes the RCM is overdoing it!

Just like the recent maple leaf so call coin, it's nice but in my opinion it's more of a medallion, and I believe another of the disturbing practice of commissioned coins, it looks like a Franklin mint item, how ever nice they are they become bullion value.

The only color needed on a coin is natural toning in my opinion. All else is just fluff on bullion.

Once RCM deviated from collector issues of circulated coin, when will the line get drawn?

Seems it's already far out of the box. From bookmarks to watches, to square and maple leaf shapes, Xmas decorations, imaginary characters, glow in the dark.........reversible serving trays, coasters or iPhone case medallions? How about hubcap insets?

I don't like gimmiky NCLT coins.
In is only in a minority of cases that they command increasing prices in the aftermarket.

They seem to be just a marketing exercise, to help keep current mint product before the eye of the true collectior of modern coins.

I like round, bare metal coins. But I also do prefer a proof finish on them, rather than brilliant.
