I have only been able to find one reference in English to this WWI German medal. It is a listing in the collection inventory of the Wolfsonian Museum at the Florida International university. It matches almost exactly, except for the size. My medal is abpout 58 mm wide and round. Theirs appears to be much smaller and oval according to the description. I have attached the link below.

Could I ask how you located that ebay item? No matter what words or advanced settings I use, I still don't get a hit.

While I don't know how Petrus located the ebay example, I typed the words on the reverse into Google and had a few hits. The following two were in German I clicked translate page in Chrome and easy enough to see what the sites said.
