While digging through my change to pay for my coffee, I noticed this penny that seemed off from the rest of my coins. It's missing the copper clad? Is this worth getting slabbed? Haven't seen any pennies that look like this. And would this worth $$$?   |

If it was made that way by the mint, it's probably worth a pile of money. If it became that way after it was made, it's worth one cent. It's late now, but an expert will probably weigh in on it sooner or later.

Nope, it's not missing any copper. I opened rolls of cents that had coins no newer than 1992 in them, and more than half of the cents were like so. It's something to do with oxidation in the air, very strange but no, it's PMD. I saved several that had this look, except the whole coin was like so. |

  This one in specific I put aside. It feels like sandpaper almost, if you rub your finger down the rims. |

CoinHuntingDrew- my coin is definitely like the first photo you posted. You say its oxidation of some kind...and its PMD. If you look closer at my coin it has a swirl to it and a fade of copper to zinc. And both our have wrinkle/waves in the coins. Oxidation would cause deteration. Both our coin seem to have clear strike marks. No deteration. I've seen quarters, dimes with missing clad. Wouldn't ours be some type of missing clad? |

Quarters, dimes etc. are clad. Post 82 Cents are plated and not clad.
This is not a mint error just damaged.

Jewelman, I think what they're saying is the copper is still there, but due to contact with air it has changed color. These guys are pretty coin savvy, so I bet they're right - but I sure don't understand it.
