Yes, I do as a matter of fact but they have quite horrible rates for coins (as you'd expect)

In some cases yes, but for example here you send 5 euro cents and get 5 euro cents:

https://www.leftovercurrency.com/ex...s-euro-coin/

Rates are changing in every few days so some other day you may get something else.

Haven't had the time to follow this topic for a few weeks, but my, you did well!

The 8 Skilling 1819... if it was in better condition, you'd get a few thousand kroner for it if you'd sell it in Norway (Myntgalleri has one for sale now in quality 01 (AU) for 8000NOK, for example). Now you'd probably still get a few hundred for it.

I pulled a bunch of those Swedish silver coins from the wold coin bin that my coin club allows YNs to look through. I got about 10 coins total including a few 10 oe, sever 25 ore, 2 50 ore, and a single 1 kr. Needless to say, I was pretty happy.

Fun to hear youve got some interest going with Swedish coins! I hate to be the ruiner of fun, but these coins (1940-1960's) are nothing but junk silver. As you would understand by their frequency in my weekly treasures, they are very common. Still though, silver is always silver!

This is my favourite Coin Community topic.I'm fascinated by world coins, especially when such a variety is displayed.

Thanks! Such warm comments are always appreciated, especially when it's cold outside

Kinda figured you'd chime in on that one, always appreciated!

Yes, condition is no beauty but that doesn't make it worthless, or simply junk silver. I'm always happy to pick up something Norweigan considering their general rarity.

Despite me setting up today as being the steal of a century, that certainly wasn't the case. Though the weather was wonderful, I wonder if not it was too wonderful. The market was very well attended, both by sellers and buyers when I arrived. Mostly buyers, market dwellers like me. After a somewhat thorough look-around I did find this:

My-Sunday-Market-Finds
My-Sunday-Market-Finds
2 Øre, Norway 1907
1 Cent, Hong Kong 1931
1/4 Anna, India 1919
5 Öre, Sweden 1863

1 Shilling Kenya 2009
5 Shillings, Kenya 1997
(2x) 5 Shillings, Kenya 2009
20 Shillings, Kenya 1998
(2x) 20 Shillings, Kenya 2009

For 20 SEK. I love the Kenyan coins, with mostly bi-metallic coins in ciruclation. Same with Mexico. Also interesting is the fact that most coins tend to get quite worn in this African nation. Combine that with heat and a few bunches of rubs against palms, clothing, wallets, purses and they get quite worn.

My friend was in Kenya not too long ago and he had two interesting circulation finds despite not shopping very much (which he later gave to me, thank you very much!): The commemorative 40 Shilling coin and the much larger, heptagonal 5-Shilling pieces, very worn from 1985. Getting these has definitely sparked my interest in Kenyan coins. Now I have quite a smaller collection, including another Shilling from last week.

Well, see you all next week!
Rest in Peace

Another good week! As usual, my favorites are the oldest ones. I guess I like the designs on those the best.

Have a good week.

I do have a theory on this. It's basically the same as for Morocco (about which I posted something recently) and a bunch of other, mostly African, nations. Kenya has a large population but isn't economically viable enough to have abundant mintage. In fact, in the last decade, coins have only been issued in 2009 and 2010. That means that the existing coins are intended to stay around for a long time until they're completely worn and that they're not intended to lay around somewhere for a while, like what happens often in North America and West Europe. A coin can just lay around for many years without being touched there, while that certainly doesn't happen in Morocco and Kenya: circulation coins circulate harder, faster and longer. And indeed, the impact of the environment is bigger due to the conditions and the way they're stored (pockets instead of wallets, for example). The initial quality of the coins seems good though, as most are struck at renowned mints over the world and using decent materials: it's made to last. So that's what I think is happening.

ps. Kenya will soon get new coins, as a law from 2010 prohibits people to be pictured on their money...

As you might have heard, there has been a terrorist attack in Stockholm centre last Friday. Four people dead almost 20 injured, the alledged offender caught trying to escape.

I was affected when the police ordered a complete shutdown of Stockholm city centre, which also meant the complete shutdown of the metro system and commuter trains not going into the central station. I had taken a detour on a what was a lovely friday for fun and ended up on the wrong side of Stockholm when chaos ensued, being stuck on a commuter train for about half an hour before we arrived at an inner-city station, from where I had to, like tens of thousands of Stockholmers that day, walk a great bit to catch what was left of my ride home with public transport.

Apart from a bit of exhaustion from walking that distance and a bit mentally shocked about the event, I'm fine. I decided early on to go to today's market anyway, since like all obstacles in life, you have to move on. Don't let those who mean harm get to you.

Today's market was well attended aswell, and it seemed like any warm spring Sunday. Again, life goes on as it should.

A little bit of new stuff was added to today's market and my eyes are going at it as usual!

My-Sunday-Market-Finds
My-Sunday-Market-Finds

1 Dime, US 1952-D
25 Qirsh, Syria 1947
50 Qirsh, Syria 1947
1 Markka, Finland 1964 & 1965

5 Sen, Malaysia 2012
50 Sen, Malaysia 2014
20 Rappen, Switzerland 1906
200 Lire, San Marino 1981
100 Colones, Costa Rica 2007

1 Mark, erman 1971-J & 1980-F
2 Kune, Croatia 1993
100 Krónur, Iceland 1995 & 2004

Every coin cost 2 SEK each, so the whole lot went for 30 SEK.

I love the two Syrian coins! No evident wear, surface luster still there and lovely designs! Steals to say the least!

I've also been looking for the somewhat new Malaysian coins, and I'm so stoked to finally get some! I think they look just amazing, and I absolutely love the "spanish flower" edge. They reallt feel modern and are definitely an upgrade to the previous series. Only wish they were worth a bit more though.

Rest in Peace

I am glad you weren't near the attack and that you're safe. My heart breaks a little every time I hear about one of these attacks -- innocent people losing their lives, or being badly injured -- and I think about how their families are affected.

I am also glad that you got to the market and bought some fine coins. I really like the coins from Croatia and Iceland.

Again, I'm glad you're safe.

I am glad to hear you weren't near the attack and got home safely.

Once again great deal.
The 1 DM coins are still worth 50 Euro Cent (5 SEK)!

That's the spirit. If you're not personally affected, then move on and don't give in to the idiots.
We had an attempted terror attack here in Oslo not long after the one in Stockholm, where a 17-year-old Russian guy tried to blow up something. Fortunately, he's arrested and the explosive didn't work. Just keep on going. Life's already too short to waste it by worrying.

Anyway, nice finds again! Remember that you can still trade in the Deutschmarks for about 5 kroner each, and if I'm not mistaking, after seeing several posts in this thread, then you got yourself a huge pile of Icelandic coins now, for a bargain. It might be nice to just take a trip there and spend a few. Iceland's a wonderful country!

X2an - glad to hear you are safe. I was shocked to hear of the terrorist attack. I've been to Stockholm four times and have always found it a beautiful and friendly city.

Here are my purchases for 10p each at a local Boot Fair last Sunday. I got the Bicentennial half, the Massachusetts quarter and the Canadian quarters mainly because they were below face value! The 1957 Swiss half-franc is silver. Other coins are a Korean 500-Won, Thai 5th Asian Games commemorative 1-Baht and a 1977 Chile 10-Pesos.
