Got this nice Trajan from a batch of uncleaned coins purchased years ago. Given enough time, a good soak in olive oil can work wonders. Not a spectacular example...but feel the history!!

You coin is known as a fouree. It is supposed to be a denarius of the emperor Trajan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourr%C3%A9e

Thanks, Echi. Awesome background information! After a bit of gentle cleaning I immediately recognized it as a base metal coin with silvering...but up until now I hadn't known of the term "fouree". The fact that it's a fouree in no way detracts from the interest of this coin. In fact...it only adds to it! An ancient counterfeit. Sweeeeet!

I have several different fouree in my collection. Sometimes they can be more rarer that the original issue.
