Some pictures of the cartwheel luster (in which the nicks & dings are somewhat washed out):

I wonder if PCGS ever mixes up their coins? Maybe someone out there is scratching their head over the MS63 grade they got, for what they were sure would come back a high grade wheatie.

Or, more seriously, maybe there's other criteria that came into play when grading this coin?

As much as I disagree with the grade I have seen PCGS and NGC grade similar Lincoln wheat cents. Just before I posted this I scanned E bay and there are several '56-d cents with similar nicks that are graded MS66

The holder is the best thing going for the coin. Be glad you own it (I think you own it,) and are not buying it

Luster, clean fields and eye appeal count the most to a TPG grade. When I first saw the pictures 66 rang in my head immediately. I'm not so down with the + designation, that should be reserved for coins without that many hits.

Those little hits and dings are minor. IMO, most of you way over-analyze those. That's the problem with pictures, you're seeing a magnified view of a coin, not what it looks like in hand. Try moving 3-4 feet from your monitor and grading.

Just goes to show you that no TPG is 100% on the mark.

Amazing, buy the coin, not the holder.

I would think this was overgraded, but again, I don't want to .

I am amazed that it graded that high. With all those hits to the jacket I thought that there is no way it could have gotten more than an MS-64.
