Add "stephenevija" to the list. Avoid like the plague. Has been getting lots of negs recently. Another scam seller. Beware.

I recently received a Canadian large cent (1886) from ebay seller "summerh98" that was taped directly to the bubble wrap. It wasn't that the holder was taped to the bubble wrap, the actual *coin* was taped to the bubble wrap. tape . . . on . . . the . . . coin

I recently received several British pre-decimal pennies from ebay seller "crpeters74d0" that were taped directly to the bubble wrap. It wasn't that the holder was taped to the bubble wrap, the actual *coins* were taped to the bubble wrap. tape . . . on . . . the . . . coins.

Granted, these are not high value coins, but still . . .. Was it something I said?

I'm a new member as you can see, relatively new to coin collecting. I just read through all 18 pages of post, WOW! I don't know why I'm so surprised, but WOW! With my experience were would I purchase a coin? Please some one point me to the list of good sellers. I cannot thank you all enough for the list and the information. You probably saved me several dollars and headaches. I know there are many sellers here help me find you.

Smoke, it just doesn't exist. With 100,000s of sellers on ebay, what would be the criteria? All we can do is share the bad ones. You'll make mistakes - as long as you are buying low value / inexpensive items, the tuition is affordable. After a while, you'll learn enough to keep yourself safe.

The old adage is so true: If it's seems too good to be true, it's not good.

It's on you, Smoke. Due diligence, the lawyers call it.

Check out the seller's feedback - that's not definitive but it's a good place to start. See what else he/she has up for sale. Anything off-kilter? Etc. etc BEFORE you bid.

I bought a 1905 Maundy set from ISwright in Adelaide .
These coins were listed as ;
Great Britain - 1905 Maundy Set. Edw VII. Ch UNC.

These are the grading results from PCGS

http://www.PCGS.com/cert/32800795
http://www.PCGS.com/cert/32800796
http://www.PCGS.com/cert/32800797

3 coins came back UNC Cleaned and 1 coin came back AUNC Cleaned.
NO mention of cleaning in the listing and 1 coin didn't even make UNC , Nothing like the coins were described as Choice Uncirculated.

I contacted ISwright and was told NO refund because I removed the coins from their 2x2's.

Fairtraderz - coins are almost exclusively cleaned, damaged, culls, or problem coins not described as such; abusive and harassing to bidders
northeast auctions llc - same as fairtraderz only worse
rtebeest - same as centsles
centsles - do I need to explain this one?
bubbasully- overgraded, damaged, details coins not described in listing
great southern coins - overgraded, overpriced problem coins not described in listing
macvanderstein - see above
fairview coins - see above
probstein123 - see above
coinmasters - basement slabber

As a general rule - any seller selling "unsearched" anything should be on this list.

I'll update this later, there's a few more I forget offhand

willturner66 recently sold a group of coins on ebay and I was the winning bidder. The coins were worth more than what I paid and he obviously knew this, despite his listing claiming he "knows nothing about coins". The day after I won (and paid), he deleted himself from ebay. I noticed when I attempted to go to the listing and found out that the listing was also deleted. I'm surprised that ebay didn't automatically open a claim or offer me a refund. I called ebay and they said they would issue me a refund after 3 days. I wasn't worried about the seller because they was a member for over a year with 51 positive feedback being mostly coin related.

Their paypal is amandaallyn and they ship from CA. So if you see any of this then realize that if you purchase from them, they could do the same thing to you.

Also, with the bank account statement it offers a phone number which I googled finding out that others apparently got scammed by this person: https://www.paypal-community.com/t5.../td-p/629075

Here's the comprehensive list from the start of this thread in 2005 to 4/16/2014. ebay USERID is listed first, alphabetically, followed by date posted and page number where it can be found. The last column is a listing of reasons codes(look to bottom for key to codes). If no reason was given, it is coded "not specified". I listed these only for completeness and I would not put much faith in a "Not specified" entry. Folks if you have a beef with a seller, list the reasons why!

Has anybody updated this list and/or have this list in a format that can be downloaded or block copied into Word or Excel, and not just in an image form? Thanks.

I was surprised to find aspencoins on the list... I have purchased from them a handful of times over the last few years, well maybe I only bid on a few of their coins, regardless I have had nothing but positive experiences with aspencoins.

A few sellers on the list could be disputed but maybe most of them are legitimately bad sellers. I've run into some myself.

Since this seems to be a sticky thread I will add my comment to the one just above. I have had nothing but positive experiences when purchasing from aspencoins as well.

dreambaowei2011 should change his name to nightmarebaowei2011

Somehow Wei Bao of Manitoba Canada trading as dreambaowei2011 on ebay with the store Wei's Coin Dream got me to send him money for a coin through a paypal invoice.
The coin was never received. Paypal employees do not have any comprehension of what I explained happened.

Wei Bao somehow used a UPS tracking number that states that an item was delivered to the town I live in.
The item was 46 lbs and was actually a tracking number UPS has for another resident of my locality.
Since Paypal is so thick headed that they can't understand that a coin is not 46 lbs, a 5 cent 1911-2011 baby nickel proof fishscale, they closed my case in the sellers favor.

So there's a new angle for the rip off artists out there. How he got tracking numbers and submit them as proof of delivery to Paypal is beyond me but it was done in this case.

If I was sent 46 pounds of silver instead of a 22 mm sliver of silver that weighs less than a couple grams, I wouldn't be so upset.

It isn't the money either, it's the dishonesty of the seller and stupidity of the employees and greed of Paypal that upsets me. Whatever happened to common sense and morals in this world? Places like ebay and Paypal have sold their souls for money over doing good honest business.

I have reported this to the BBB anyway.
For those who may be curious to look further than Paypal did. Here's the tracking number and links to the shipment he claims is his.

https://wwwapps.ups.com/WebTracking...nditions=yes

See the Shipment Progress tab after you click on that.
It comes from Denton TX ... a long way off from Manitoba Canada
PAYPAL see's DELIVERED and it's case closed!
Check out the origin of this 46 pound shipment of electrical equipment I found out was sent to an electrician here in my neck of the woods that Wei Bao claims is his my little coin.

DO NOT BUY FROM dreambaowei2011 on eBay. Beware of sellers now using tracking numbers that appear to be delivered when in fact they are not from or related to the seller at all.

I just got burned for the first time on ebay

sclora-enterprises

If you want some entertainment, go read their negative feedback. This is one of those sellers that will probably never be held accountable, because the vast majority of their feedback is positive.

But if you look at the negative feedback, you will see the sleazy side. Some of their listings are done with pictures of other coins they own that are exactly like the one they are selling except that they don't have a giant scratch or splotches or environmental damage. That damage is not mentioned in the listing or shown in the picture. But if you read the description, you will see that it is mentioned that it is a different coin than pictured.

So yes, they are following the rules I guess. They mentioned it. But some people buy based on the picture. I have bought a lot of coins on ebay, and I usually am dilligent, but I was distracted that day and I got caught. In the end, it only cost me $9. But I ended up spending $9 on a penny that ended up being worth a penny. That kind of profit adds up quickly, and this guy is getting away with it. He is selling within a comfy loophole.

And the worst part is the way he responds. I asked for a refund and instead of saying no, he used all caps to call me an idiot and said he was banning me from ever buying from him again.

Just as well.... I wasn't planning on it. But now I am on a mission to warn others. Doesn't seem like good business...
