i went to my LCS today and bought a bag of wheat pennies. the guy there told me that he doesn't search them, he just puts them in a counting machine and bags them. I saw this and my heart dropped... is it the real thing?

I dont think it's a 1914 D... Can you post a closer picture of the shoulder? If it has a VDB on it then it's most definitely not (a 1914 D or S), but it (the VDB) could also be worn off. Maybe, assuming there is no VDB (which I think there is a VDB), it could be a 1914 S. However, I think the chances are SLIM of it being one of those rarities. However, there is still a sizeable chance that it is a 'D or 'S, and we all hope it is one!

COTW, I see damage on the shoulder, but no VDB. I'm pretty sure its a 1914, but the more I look at it the lee I'm sure whether its a d or s

Here is the same photo of the coin you posted, only I changed the exposer. I see something on the arm, the date LOOKs like it could be 1914, but it wouldn't be to hard to see the date as a 1918, wich HAS VDB on the arm, either. I'm not 100% sure at all on this coin, and if it was me I would submit it to ANACS as a 1914 D.

Maybe take a gamble and send it to ANACS or a TPG?

I found one similar CRHing several weeks ago. I'm half tempted to submit it to ANACS.

2.97 grams makes sense because of all the wear on it!

I'd say that... Well, it certainly looks like a 1914 D! I'd submit it to ANACS, but who knows what they will say. I'd give it a 60%-70% of coming back authentic

I'd I submit it as a 1914d and it's actually and s, what would they do? Could I submit it as saying I'm not sure what mm?
