@Finn the last part of your post made me very interested. That seems like more of an adventure while searching through the lot. Not exactly sure what I should be looking for on ebay though.

I got started on the 50 State Quarters, which I see you've already done as well. I've since expanded to commemoratives as well. I also collect currency from countries I've visited. But that's just me, go wherever your heart takes you with this hobby!

@nicky,

I can post some auctions that you can use as reference (posting from my mobile now) but my best advice is to find a listing that interests you, then do some quick research to determine whether or not you want to bid.

The best listings typically have a coin or two that carry most of the value of the whole lot, or coins that can be redeemed at a face value greater than what you pay for the lot. It helps to have a general feel of what world coins have some value (all US 19th century, most British and related colonials) and which ones are worth basically nothing (most Italian, French, and Mexican 20th century coins).

Some of my favorite listings:

- Constantine I Roman issue in VG won for $1.49, shipped.

- Lot won for $3 with free shipping that contained $4 worth of coins that are legal tender

-Lot won for $6 that contains a US nickel 3 cent (these tend to sell for $5 minimum, regardless of grade)
