I got this one the other week

Smallest-Coins-So-Far-Greek

I was shocked how small it is in hand since the photo gives no real idea of scale. In truth I will probably avoid getting many at this size though I find it miraculous that they didn't constantly lose these (maybe they did)

I love the quale in the incuse square... that is super.

Here are some Fanams from India I purchased about a dozen years ago, I believe I paid about $4.00 each and sold them for $6.00-$8.00 each in my ebay store...
When I went into Jewelry and purchased a expensive scale for gemstones and a electronic gold tester, all the Fanams tested at 14KT... The scale measures exact weight down to .001grams or grain, and while excellent for gemstones and small coins, the maximum weight without harming the scale is only 20 grams..

Very nice tiny coins. I have a few but generally try not to buy many small coins. I have a hard enough time seeing the larger ones.

Dutch,
Thank you for posting that first coin. At long last I know what I have.

Back in the early 1990s at a Chicago Coin Fair, I purchased a similar coin with a quail reverse. This coin:

Smallest-Coins-So-Far-Greek

I could see that the quail is facing right and the head is off the flan, but it seemed well struck for such a tiny piece. Like your coin it is also 5x6mm but weighs .22 g, and I had identified it as a Tetartemorion of Ionia, Miletos. But I could not identify the obverse figure. After seeing your example I looked again, and I believe it too is a lion head left.

Mystery solved, thanks to you.

Many thanks! BTW I think you have a much nicer example.

Wouldn't you know I flipped the obverse. Let's try again.

The Lion's head faces right. The quail's head is off flan to right.

I have been looking for an affordable fanam for some time now. The ones on Vcoins are all over $100 and I don't trust the ebay sellers. :(
