Is this a "planchet peel" or "laminate" error? I am trying to learn the terminology, but it all seems to intersect.

Either way, it's the same thing, i.e., a laminate failure.

delamination, lamination, peel, planchete peel, flake, all are the same.

These gentlemen are correct. Very common in the Buffalo nickel series as the blanks had annealing issues throughout the 25 year run.
