Is there such a thing as an uncoated zinc-coated steel cent?
And if there is, is it worth anything. At first I thought its coat could have been melted with acid, but it looks like it has been this way for a long time. I have another "unplated" one, but IT DID NOT HOLD UP WELL! You can't even see the LIBERTY on it.

I think, that in this case, the protective zinc coating has just preferentially worn or oxidised off, leaving just the steel core.

Compare with coins of other countries that were made of unplated steel.

your steel cent looks like a typical one that's seen many years of circulation and most of the zinc coating has worn off.

Simply damaged from years of circulation, not an error.
