tesserae were used for many purposes ,some have a numeral , others a text , others , like yours , an image .Here we see the three Graces ,so I think it was for a more pleasant half hour somewhere .Of course , it can also been a jeton for a lyric representation ...albert

According to Forum, "Tesserae are ancient tokens. Most were made from lead, but bronze and other materials were also used. They were used as tickets for theaters, gladiator fights, ferry passage and even brothels. Some were given as gifts by a King, the Roman emperor or a local government, perhaps to the poor as vouchers to exchange for food." The Three Graces seems to have been a relatively common subject...I've spotted a few online.
