Serdica mint. RIC 878. Still has nice silvering in place. I enjoy the pieces that have the atypical bust (spear and shield facing left in this example). Strike is pretty strong. Thoughts?

A good coin to start with, lots of bang for you buck.

I just have one with the standard bust but I agree the shield and spear type is pretty cool. Your reverse is also pretty dynamic looking too.

A thumbs up from me, though I do prefer my coins to be out of captivity and not incarcerated in plastic.

A very nice coin. Are you going to remove it from the slab? Ancients are meant to be handled and not slabbed.

It is my only slabbed ancient, so I doubt I will keep it in the slab, as it belongs with the rest of my ancients. For what it is worth NGC gave it: MS with 5/5 strike 4/5 surface. I do like the NGC insert descriptions though so I'll be keeping that with the coins other info once removed.

Break that baby out! Ridiculous as this sounds it always makes me sad to see coins as characteristic as ancients sitting around stuck. I love to keep mine loose in a drawer, handle them quite frequently, or often take some out with me in my pocket, or move them around in my hands, just to keep the feeling of their history living on. They can be so much fun to handle!
