The thing that's slightly noticeable is that the relief is way too high to be a 1914 D.

Blurry pics? Yes. The gap in between the 2nd and third digits aren't that large.

Agree it doesn't look like the typical '44D alteration - the gap is not that great, but somehow it still looks too big.
