In all the years of collecting I never knew how dangerous rubber bands were. I had wrapped a stack of mylar 2x2's with a rubber band and stuck the coins in a typical place in the house. I live in the southern most part of the US so maybe the heat/humidity coupled with the rubber band produced this. I ruined a very choice coin. The quarter at the bottom of the stack wound up with a dark burn strip across the reverse . I can post that too. dip it? thoughts?

Very nice to me. Does it devalue it, or do you personally not like it?

If it bothers you that bad, I would gladly add it to my collection.

davec13, I've got it at MS65. what say you? $20 and its yours. PM me for arrangements if you really want it. I don't like the AT on it at all and it no longer fits my all CH BU Wash Quarter Set in blast white. I'm looking for another to acquire.

If that were AT, all toning would be AT.

Also I kind like it. I'm off to get some rubber bands now.

I have a Two Cent Piece with a rubber band 'black burn mark' across it. I don't think it did anything for the eye appeal. It is difficult to predict exactly how the out gassing will affect various coin surfaces.

Lesson learned, I've seen this quite a few times in old collections. Personally, I love the toning, it looks better than a blast white coin IMO.
Now we see the problem with the term AT. This coin has not been artificially toned, the toning is "accidental/incidental". AT coins are ones that have been intentionally subject to chemicals or other abuse in order to deceive and make others believe the toning occurred naturally. The toning on this coin happened on it's own due to storage conditions, without malicious intent....it is 100% natural.

Sorry for your loss. It's ashamed that a beautiful coin has become damaged.

Except that
A) It's not a damaged coin B) It looks BETTER than beforehand
Im going to leave this thread before a flame war (google it) starts over the like/dislike of toning...

There's nothing wrong with a little debate. I like the reverse of that quarter, blast white. was never a fan of toned coins unless it's a true; not AT . rainbow .

You make it sound like everyone on this forum is old and wouldn't know what a flame war is...haha! Don't forget I'm 16! I betcha only a handful of people actually know what "Swag" means in current day terms here. Except, "Swag" really doesn't exist since it's more so opinionated than factually given.

I didn't know what flame war was and I'm only 30 that's not old . Haha. I know what a flamer is and I thought it had something to do with that. Anyway I personally like some toning but not all. It isn't devalued but if you have it in a set with all white coins then it has to go. It would be take away eye appeal from the whole set if it is the only one like that.
