Hello,

I rarely venture into this section of the forum but I picked up a couple of Medieval Islamic pieces I thought I would ask the experts about... 100% impulse purchase, as evidenced by my complete ignorance on them...

#1 (Described As) AH 183 Abbasid Caliphates Dirham AR Dirham

#2 (Described As) 1236-1259 Syrian Ayyubid, Al-Nasir Yusuf II AR Dirham, Halab Mint

Apologizes for the crummy photos, these are in ANACS slabs which I will probably release them from if I decide to I am definitely going to keep...

Any additional information on these anyone has? My knowledge basically consists of reading the wikipedia articles on the Abbasid Caliphates (I had no idea how much area they covered at one point!) and the article on the Ayyubid Dynasty...

Thanks guys!

I'm just starting to branch out into the Eastern empires so I really don't know a lot about these coins. A good source of information can be found at http://www.acsearch.info in the search bar type Ayyubid or Abbasid. There are a lot of these coins listed so you should be able to find a reference to yours. BTW, those are two very nice examples.
