This has been on my mind for a few weeks so I figured I would just say it and get it off my mind.

Maybe this isn't the forum to discuss this in, but it directly relates to it.

Since I joined CCF I always enjoyed reading posts in the US Commemorative section. Yes, it was a slower forum with considerable less thread count BUT...it was super informative.

It has actually gotten me more interested in commemoratives then any other avenue has. Some of the members that are regulars in that forum are simply top notch and a great asset to the community.

Here's my bummer statement...Since Non-Circulating Coinage was added to the Commemorative forum, it feels to me anyway, that commemorative topics in general have suffered. For that I am bummed out.

Just my 2 cents. I feel the commemorative aspect of this forum took a hit when Non-Circulating Coinage arrived.

I know what ya mean but I also understand the inclusion of NIFC because most commems are non circulating

BTW what does NCLT stand for?

@One50: I agree with your observations.

I've been away for a few months for a variety of reasons and was quite surprised upon my return to see how the CCF Commemorative section has transformed into something very different vs. what it was when I was last participating.

I agree that in its previous form, the US Commemoratives forum was not the busiest here on CCF, but the quality of the content/discussions was often top-notch and informative.

I would definitely prefer a return to the forum's previous focus. As I've said here on CCF before, the terms "commemorative" and "NCLT" are not interchangeable (though many collectors use them that way). Most of today's NCLT issues are not commemorative in any shape or form, they are theme-based (e.g., animals, plants, mythical gods, etc.) releases that do not celebrate history (the intent of true commemorative coins).

The forum name is not meant to say that they are the same thing or that the terms are synonymous, but that they both have to live in the same place. Neither has enough traffic to live alone, while NCLT was adding too much traffic to the Modern forum.
