The E has MD on it, making it appear smaller. I suspect the I is normal for that year, you could probably verify by comparing it with another 1935.

I pulled out a '35 and the E is similar to yours minus MD and the I is close-yours looks slightly smaller but they are close

I did compare my coin to those on CC's site because I did not have any handy to use "in hand" as a comparison. Thanks for the help.
