Im OK with the cleaning, I sort of thought that it was based on the hairlines, but I wasn't sure if these get easily scratched.

They do get easily scratched, but not like this.
There is probably little if any collector value to this common date in this state - not something to hang on to for appreciation.

Would I do better to sell it and find a righteous example in a slab to crack out for my 7070?

Matt to answer your question, in my opinion absolutely yes.

Quote: Would I do better to sell it and find a righteous example in a slab to crack out for my 7070? Keep researching, go to local coin shops, shows etc... handle a bunch of them and get an eye developed for cleaned versus not. Once you're comfortable, make a purchase. I would send this coin back. You don't want this as an example in your 7070 hole. We all know the excitement of a new coin, especially gold, but you also want to look at it every time and not feel like you have made an uneducated choice. Good luck

AU-55 cleaned. Photo lighting makes the coin look worse than it probably is in hand. This coin is fine for plugging a hole in an album. JMHO
