I picked up several low grade pennies and I want your opinion whether this one may be an 1862 small date. One reference compares the width of the date (between the 6 and the 2) and one reference compares the height of the date. Which is the correct comparison--width or height? Any chance mine is "small" (unlikely)?

The 6-2 gap on mine is narrower than other 1862s I have and see online. But the 6 almost touches the device, such that the 6 is "tall" (not "small"). I guess most references I see compare height, not width, so I appear to be out of luck. But what do you think?

What do you mean your hundred years off ,completely different coin.

I am intrigued though with your 1963 small date theory ,think you must be getting a bit confussed.

But I don't get what you mean by 100 years off? I have no 1963 small date theory!

It's a comparison between a small date 1862 penny and a normal date penny.

If you type in "1862 small date penny" in google, this is the first image you get.

I'm still confused about this 1963 penny you talk about, I didn't even mention anything like that!

The stacks bowers coin is also miss attributed and should not be used as a comparable.
