Ty! Interesting first coin to post. When you get the chance, visit Coppercoins and use their Advanced Search to look up dates and mints for coins you're interested in learning about. 1976 has a few listings. Browse the listings paying attention to the left margin tips for die markers that you can use to identify/attribute your coin. The picture you posted is a distance shot...a bit too distant. Have fun taking pictures...it is a bit of an art. And when you need some help, take pictures that are similar to the ones posted at Coppercoins. Folks here can use those to find markers you may have missed. Bottom line: have fun!

Not necessarily coincody. It could be a nice MAD. Misaligned die. We would need a reverse pic to tell for sure.

Yes this is a MAD coin. Mis aligned die . It happens when the hammer die coes down off center from the anvil die which is sitting center therefore the reverse is centered where the anvil die is and theobverse is off centered where the hammer die is.

if what you're talking about is the rim on the obverse, its not a dd. its called a MAD, or mis aligned die. thats what gave the doubled rim effect. a dd would have the devices (letters, numbers, any design on the coin) doubled. check out coppercoins . com for some pictures of doubled dies. and its an addictive hobby.

I agree on MAD, Nice find! These get especially collectible when some of the design is missing For future topics I recommend cropping your photos so we have just the coin in view. This can be done in any simple editing program on your phone/computer. I also recommend getting a loupe for both photography and for your own use when looking at coins. Be sure to check out the photography forum for more information: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...?FORUM_ID=81Since you seem very interested in your new hobby, read up as much as you can about errors. This will help you find what to look for on coins and not accidentally skip over anything! There are plenty of resources online and helpful posts here on CCF.

Tripod - a couple tips.
As noted, crop your photo to include just the coin. Try to take shots straight on; your coin is a decent MAD but taking angle shots can exaggerate an error/variety with shadow and glare
Use a solid backdrop; I've seen several out-of-focus shots where members have used newsprint as a backdrop or their fingers. The camera sometimes has a hard time picking what object to focus on and sometimes, it's not the coin
We don't use Text shorthand here in the forums; many members don't text and aren't familiar with it. Unless you want to be called Ty.
Good luck on the hunt and don't forget to check out the photography tips forum.
