Looks like I might have put this in the right place this time :)

This is some kind of European mediaeval(ish) type of coin I got from Lithuania just after xmas. Seller didn't have much of a clue either...

The coat of arms, and the text around it, MON NOVA HAMB VRGE, gives this coin away as being from the Free City of Hamburg. Not sure how old - looks like 1400's or 1500's, not too dissimilar to this one on CoinArchives.

I don't know the series well enough to be sure, and I can't find an exact match to give an indication of what they're supposed to be worth. I do know that before the rise of the fakemasters of China, post-Communist Poland was considered the most dangerous source of fake coins, particularly Polish, German and Austrian ones. This one's a bit earlier than their usual repros.

If this one's a fake, it would fool me... it's more realistic-looking than the other one which, I have to admit, I would probably accept as genuine.

Thanks Sap - I accepted them as genuine and if they're fakes they're interesting ones (sic) at least.. Re. the other one, who would dig holes into a fake coin? (okay maybe to make it look more genuine, but hmmm..)
