Thanks Alan What are the signs to look out for on a cleaned coin and how much does it alter the value. Saludos Paul

It looks like an old polishing as its lightly toned over with a greyish patina. With that detail one would expect to see luster, but the surface is smooth, not lustrous. I may be wrong, but that's what I'm seeing. If you post a pic at an angle it may help confirm. It could also have been from heavy handling in hand, not circulation though as the coin is barely circulated, just handled and or polished.
Value wise, it's not harsh but would still effect the value 30% or so. It's not a harsh cleaning.

It's a nice coin, I'd stick to what I said, au50 with an old polishing, because I can see luster in the low points where the polishish cloth or finger/hand wear couldn't reach into. Look inside the lettering, there's some luster there, but no where else. I personally as a collector don't have an issue with it. Is a nice lookin coin, nice grey tone! Such a classic coin issue! And a decent sized coin to, always loved that gothic bust!
