The new coins are available on mint's website. Two toonies and four quarters. Two of the quarters are coloured. I just placed my order.

Same here, but the email I received said there are only 75,000 of these available for sale.

Hoping to get in on at least one public coin exchange before they arrive in the mail.

Thank you very much for the "heads up"!
I am on the RCM email, and mailing lists, and I rarely catch these offers.

I just ordered mine.

I am not either, but this saves me from having to look through pocket change to find coins;
The shipping (letter mail) is free - so there is no reason why I wouldn't get this;
$5 currency in uncirculated condition (in sealed packaging), at face value.

I don't quite understand why the mint does this - because in theory, they are loosing money on every one of these sets.

I do wish I could buy some extra sets for my nieces & nephews.

Yes it must cost the RCM over 5 dollars to send and process 1 of these sets out.

oh I am sure the Canada post office gives them a good deal for shipping, it only for sale in Canada. plus the post office here holes a lot of the mints coins for resale some marked up from the mint some have GST add. others are the same price.

I don't doubt that the cost of manufacturing and putting them in plastic, and then in envelopes doesn't exceed face value, but it does increase overhead, which could be completely eliminated by just sending to banks...
And then, that doesn't take into account for postage.

A bubble envelope, paying a third party packaging, even discounted postage, just the RCM's own employees handlings must cost close to 5.00, but if it introduces new collectors, it works.

I think ultimately they chalk the extra expense of these up to the cost of the ARP. By minting millions of extra new coins, it will actually drive old ones out, which means the pre-2000 coins will get sent back and melted down.

I think RCM uses this as a marketing tool, much like retail stores' loss leaders. Everybody's name who ordered the packs get added to their catelogue mailout list.

I agree with the Marketing Tool theory. When I was checking out my $5 shopping cart I got a pop-up notice that said "you may also like... (expensive NCLT product)".

i don't think any of them will make it into circulated, I haven't been on a mint tour but I would bet a machine is going to package them. plus there going to punch out a pile for circulation like the "wait for me daddy" coin, I bet it going to be like a cost of maybe .50 cents or so to make them.

My understanding is the RCM third party all their like Oh Canada, and various sets to save money, at Winnipeg tour you see press coins into huge bulk bins, and the famous plastic rolls of each denominations.
