How about some input here, you '14D sharks.

Obverse clearly a different color and (apparently) a higher grade than the reverse.

But whatever it is, it is not an altered '44D looking at the digit spacing.

It's a fake alright. Not an altered piece, IMHO unless the date was restruck somehow.

You guys are honestly saying this isn't a counterfeit, yet alone an altered 1944D?

Look at the obverse relief, for heaven's sake! It's too high!

The space between the 1 and the 4 is too large too.

Altered 44 D that has had the "1" shifted to the left to help hide the spacing problem (Yes it can be done). The spacing doesn't show the wide gap usually seen between the 9 and the 1, but the spacing between the digits isn't even, and the second "1" is longer than the first 1 and that isn't the case on the genuine 1914 D.

Interesting fake, I agree with Conder. The spacing is not correct regardless of the attempted deception of moving the 1 over to the left. I can tell by the die it's an alter 44D. The coins from the 40's just look a lot different from those made in 1914.

We wouldn't have to draw out the discussion like this if your original post had some substance instead of just a link.

It's obviously NOT a typical altered 44-D like you implied which is why I moved on the first time I read the topic..

I still don't know that it is. But it's not the typical 4 turned into a 1.
