Thanks Brett,
Yes it helps a lot.

A few questions?

1-What does the 'a' indicate?

2-When I see notes listed with year dates, does it mean note was issued in that year or the year in the note itself?

3-Why are there more then one pick #'s for certain notes?
Are they Varieties? How do I know the difference?

4-CSI?, CS2? what does this mean?

5-What does PNL mean?

6-I understand Antractica 'notes' are not 'legal tender' but they are of the polymer material,
would these have Pick #'s as well. If so what are they?

7-Chatham Islands
legal tender?
Pick #'s?

FYI: If you don't already know, Israel will be issuing a 20 (?)sometime in 2008.

Thanks! you've been a tremendous help.

1-What does the 'a' indicate? 1 Gourde P#230a I should have capitalized the "a". When the suffix letter is capital it is part of the pick number, when it is lower case it means it is a variety, specific date or signature listing

2-When I see notes listed with year dates, does it mean note was issued in that year or the year in the note itself? give me an example please

3-Why are there more then one pick #'s for certain notes? 2 Kina P12, P15, P16, P21. P12 is the 9th South Pacific Games, P15 is the 20th Anniversary of Independence, P21 is the Silver Jubilee of PNG.
Are they Varieties? How do I know the difference?, Yes there are varieties. Some can be a date change or a slight color change or a signature change. A pick catalog will help

4-CSI?, CS2? what does this mean? CS pick numbers are for a Commemorative Series usually issued in a folder or something.

5-What does PNL mean? Not sure where you got this from!

6-I understand Antractica 'notes' are not 'legal tender' but they are of the polymer material,
would these have Pick #'s as well. If so what are they? No pick numbers that I know of.

7-Chatham Islands
legal tender? No, they are privately issued notes. I also have them but didn't list them as no pick numbers
Pick #'s?

Thanks Brett,
To answer you question:

2- Ok here is a listing for a note. It is listed as a 2006 but in looking at the note I see 2005.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ZAMBIA-1000-Kw-...NG_W0QQitemZ300104125075QQihZ020QQcategoryZ3422QQcmdZViewItem

5- PNL?
http://www.polymernotes.org/country_pages/nga.htm

Gosh... I think I'm confusing myself.
Basiclly, my question is when catologing your notes do you
id each with the year note has? or when it was first issued.

For example:
I have a Australia $5 .
According to my research this note was first issued in 2003 (Macfarlane-Henry) -for the life
of me I can't even see/find where the year is printed on this note. (Let's say the note has 2005 imprinted.)
How would you catolog this note for reference? 2003 as the first year
of issue or 2005 ?

Thanks again,
mila_

The Zambia note listed in that auction is a 2005. The seller has it listed wrong.

The PNL I beleive is "pick# not listed" as they have yet to issue a pick number. You would think when countries announce they are going to issue new notes they would generate a new pick number

Austalia uses an easy numbering system to figure out the year by serial number. For example if the note you own starts out with the following BA02 it was issued in 2002. If it starts AA95 it's a 1995 issue. I think New Zealand uses the same system.

So after the prefix of letters the first 2 numbers will identify the date for Australia

99=1999
00=2000
01=2001
02=2002
03=2003
and so on

Can you tell I love polymer notes? I'm trying to learn everything I can about them. There is just so much to learn. If I could just get someone to buy me the Brunei $10,000 note, I would be very grateful and extremely happy.

Brett, the serial # to my note is CA 05002142, so then it's 2005?
