To the OP - I recognize the holders. The original buyer paid between $35 - $125 for each coin, and they were purchased through "Complete US Dollars Collection" subscription purchases through The Bradford Mint. In my opinion, this company preys on new collectors, or older folks who remember the "glory days" of
US coinage. They sell outrageously over priced, over graded (by the company) coin programs. They sell G/VG common date Morgans in a similar program for $150 each (sent every other month, payment of $75 per month). They have other programs for cents, dimes, quarters, and halves.
Congratulations are your very good fortune. It's a sad footnote that your new coins came at the expense of someone who was taken advantage of. The fact that you bought them at face value suggests that the original buyer didn't even want them around as reminders that he/she had been so sadly cheated.
Spurious sellers are nothing new. We've all seen it in just about every area of human endeavor. I think it just bothers me more when it's done within the numismatic hobby, where we've made such strides toward honesty and decency with the efforts of the
ANA, Third Party Graders, etc.Jack
