Keeping in the theme of coins from the Bible days, my next coin is of Aretas IV (Philopatris) and his second wife Shaquelat King of the Nabataeans from 9 BC- 40 AD. The Nabataean kingdom with it's capital in the beautiful rock cut city of Petra in present day Jordan. Aretas daughter was the wife of Herod Antipas, she learned that he planed to divorce her so she went to her father who attacked Judea and won.

Aretas is mentioned in the Bible in Corinthians 11:32,33 and Acts 9:23 ,24

Aretas IV and Shaquelat
9 BC-40 AD
This coin struck after 16 AD
Obverse: Jugate bust of king and queen
Reverse: Crossed cornucopia
Legend in Aramaic: Aretas King of the Nabataeans, Friend of his people
17 mm x 4.2 grams x 12h
Ref: Meshorer 113.

Always been fond of Nabataean coins. Thanks for sharing, Ron.

I am not much into these coins(or the bible) but I am glad to see you are collecting again.

Sometimes we must take a break but its nice to get new goodies and a well centred one here.

Both this coin and the prutah were two types I didn't have. These came along and were very inexpensive so I went for them. I like to try and branch out into new areas, I've been working on the Eastern empires for some time now and these seen to be the next area to explore.

It's good hearing from you Chris, hope that we will start visiting us again more often.
