It appears to be a South African Tax token

Don't know about it being a SA tax token, andx the stuff on ebay is never wrong!!
What they are known for in the U.S. Is a slot machine token, They were used up till the 1940's As with most things on the bay it is way over priced. As with these there millions of them out there they generally go for .50 and in quantity about a nickle each.
The numbers can run to 35,000 and some higher, they can represent the individual machine number,or the machine operators or the businesses.
On the first pic but can be a company name, or a good for, or Amusement only etc.

This number is either sold on every site or there are multiples for sale.
As the link states the real S A Hut tax tokens are extremely rare.
