Another Probus for my collection. The goal is to acquire one Antoninianus from each mint that struck that denomination under Probus before branching out to some of the more interesting types produced during his reign. Tripolis doesn't have much variety, basically just this style with a whopping two entries in RIC (927 and 928). I understand they aren't that hard to find though.

That is a very nice example. There is an educational site on the Tripolis mint:

What I would absolutely love to see is that when you have gotten to one mint per, take an obverse picture of them side by side by side, with the mint text underneath. That could be really interesting to see!

Probus was my primary 3rd century concentration for the first ten years I collected ancients. He really seems to have had a whirlwind career with him charging through crisis after crisis as first a lieutenant under Aurelian and then an almost nonstop reign as Emperor.
That very remarkable 4th century emperor Julian II gave him high praise by placing him at the table in his "Banquet" along side the likes of Augustus Trajan and Marcus.
His coinage is good quality and many billon ants have extraordinary high quality die engraving.

Back in 1980 I could get little EF gems for under $12 each !
Sometimes dealers put them in the "junk" boxes and a fiver might work !

Great coin by the way !
