Just got $1300 worth of 20c coins.

What should I be keeping, and what should I be throwing back into circulation?

For now I'm setting aside all of the 1966 and 2004 ones which I will study more closely for the wavy 2 and the big head, and I'm setting aside all the coins with a different "tails" side.

So far I've only searched through about $150 worth, and I have found 4 of the state coins (VIC, NSW, WA, and NI)

So yeh, if someone could give me a list of coins I should be keeping, it would be much appreciated. :)

Thanks. :)

Keep any 2001 commemoratives (Centenary of Federation + Bradman), 1995 UN anniversary, but only very best specimens of the 2003 and 2005 commemoratives.
You know about 1966 and 2004.
1985 is very low mintage year so grab those too. Also 1988 but arguable if they actually ever did get into circulation.
Any very good condition up to about 1972 are worth keeping and if you find any pre 2000 in close to uncirculated condition best to grab those too.
That's pretty well it for 20˘ unless someone else knows something I don't.

cheers

Oh yeh, and in the first $100 I got about 15 bradman coins and 10 volunteer coins.

Also, roughly how many of the 1966 coins were wavy 2's?
And roughly how many of the 2004's were big heads?

No one knows how many wavy 2's there are, but its REALLY scarce, you can read up threads on these coins at the Varieties and error forums... as for 2004 big heads, there is approx 400 000, I found four in two days, but that was luck, now I can't seem to find any... :(

There is also the 1981 with a dot above the 'R' in AUSTRALIA. Very scarce and worth looking for.

Never seen a picture of that... Is the dot perculiar to the Canberra, Wales or Ottawa minting and what was the reason for the dot?

Re 1981 Maccas says "On a small number of coins, a dot Cud appears above the R in AUSTRALIA. Unc examples sell for around $75." This is Canberra mint.
Also for Canada (Winnipeg) minted (3˝ claws variety) mintage shown as only 50,000 and Unc value $170.
Both of these obviously worth keeping, if any found.

Mintage for Wales (Llantrisant) is also shown as only 50,000 but Unc value is given as just $3.00?

Just another thought.
With the number of coins there you should come close to making a full set of every 20˘ circulated (including varieties) -maybe even a wavey 1966.
Try for that and see how many gaps you have. Then come back here and see what swaps you can organise for the others you find (CoF, Bradmans and UN are always popular) and possibly you will have a full set of 20s -or darn close.

cheers

Can someone post a high resolution pic of a wavy 2, and exactly what I am supposed to be looking for?

Im pretty sure I understand what it is from the descriptions and the small pics, but a decent pic would be very helpful.

Cheers. :)

Take Jeff's avatar and zoom into it... The top line making up the base of the '2' is a curve and is very obvious......

Eric,
I can't send you an email -you haven't put your address in your profile. Maybe this will work....

Cheers
