So... I have never sent a coin off to PCGS or anything... What do you guys think this would grade at? Do you think I should send it in to be graded? Should I see if they can restore this coin? Opinion pls.   Edited by thelionwarrior

Vf30 details rim damage reverse
I wouldn't waste the money on it because it will come back details grade wise. The rim damage is bad. Keep it as is.

First you need a membership that costs a $70 a year then minimum with shipping an handling $40 for the coin. It isn't worth it keep it as is trust me! There is nothing to gain from this coin. If you had a 1893S Morgan then I'd suggest you send it in. Don't waste your $$$.

But if I get the subscription thing with 8 free graded coins then I could do this one With 7 other coins right? I've never used their service so I don't know the costs of grading coins. Just trying to see if I could justify doing it. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who does or has done it so I have a lot of stupid questions. :/ guess I can always just keep all of my coins without grades on them

First, I would not waste the money slabbing this coin. It is a problem coin. I'd grade it at EF-40 details.

EF-40, minor rim damage. Very collectible date with original surfaces and dark but attractive toning. I like the coin. Should trade at the VF price.

Can someone help me out with one more thing? Understanding PCGS prices on the chart. Would ef 40 put this coin at around $230 according to PCGS? Or would it be more towards 145?

I think the point being made is that the coin is damaged and probably not worth anything like the nominal catalog value.

It's worth melt value or slightly over, maybe $15 to $20.
PCGS would body bag it and you'd have spent 40 bucks to grade a 20 buck coin.
Save your 8 submissions for problem-free coins :) You'll appreciate this later.

If I were you I'd just hold off till anacs has one of the free grading specials , you can send 2 coins and all it's going to cost you is about 25 for return shipping and insurance ... If your dead set on having the coin graded this would be the smartest route , money wise anyways !! As for the value I don't agree with the opinion of melt value or 15-20 bucks at all , to me that's insane! Yeah it's a problem coin with some pretty heavy rim damage but at the same time it's a lower mintage semi key date ... People are more forgiving with problem coins that are better dates , anyone that watches ebay any at all will know this to be true! I did a quick search looking at past auctions and there are a few coins with similar problems about the same grade selling for 70plus .... So in my opinion it would be well worth the 12-13 bucks to send into anacs when the next special rolls around as you wouldn't have any problem at all getting 60-80 out of this coin ! |

More than likely, ebay is simply more full of people who don't understand that a coin with this sort of damage is worth maybe 5-10% of the price of a problem-free coin, even in a slab.
