I have been busy at work lately and am getting a little behind in the forum reading.

Thought I would share my first "celebrity" bid on a current auction for a 1929 $2.50 Gold Quarter Eagle that ends Sunday PM.

I usually check out my bidders feed backs and history and as I clicked on the current highest bidder's ID today and saw their photo I said wow...I watch them on TV!

Do you recognize them too?

My-First-

It's Jarrod & Brandy from storage wars on AE.

I have had higher bids since then, but I thought it was kind of neat and had to share.

I called in at their store in Orange last year but all I found was life size cardboard cut-out images of them. They were off filming more Storage Wars.

Later in the day I was in Newport and guess who passed by in his black van - Yuuup - you guessed right - Dave Hester. The Yuuup sign on his van is so big you can see it from a mile back

Its a cool show (though I can't stand American style auctioneers... (what is it with rolling your 'r's to try and make it sound like you can talk fast? Bizarre!!) I have often wondered if it was real (and suspect that bins are laced with items to make it seem more interesting + heavily edited (boring bins not featured) but interesting non-the-less. So a few years ago I had a search to see if I could attend such events in the UK (I couldn't find any storage auctions... phones a few places who said they don't auction the bins, they sell the contents themselves to cover unpaid fee's) Now I see "Storage Hunters UK" and just think its make believe.

I prefer American Pickers if I am honest ^^ but pretty cool story :)
Rest in Peace

That is cool! I use to watch Storage Wars and American Pickers from time to time but we cut our cable cord a couple of years ago and got rid of that rapidly increasing bill each month in favor of Netflix, Hulu and Vudu. And all the endless commercials!

.
We called in on Direct Liquidations warehouse in Burnaby,Vancouver last June - sadly the star of the show Jeff Schwarz was not home. Quite a disappointing warehouse after seeing the show, however I did get a nice photo of myself with a few of his life size liquidated camels

We always try to track down these 'stars' if we are anywhere near.......once we got lucky, and they even made us a cup of tea and kept us chatting for an hour or more.

I have attended such auctions several times over the years. More often than not the owner of the storage yard has gone through the lockers and they are filled ith low value items. I read in a report on Hester's law suit against the production company that things are added to the lockers sometimes to make better TV.
