I am trying to put a collection of Canada Small Cents together. I am doing it a little different than other people. What I am doing is collecting Business Strikes from bank rolls, Proof-Like Strikes from Mint Sets, Specimen Strikes from Specimen Sets, and Proof Issues. I am using a list I got off of this forum, but I came across a question.

For the 1983 date, there are two main varieties, the Close Beads and Far Beads. My list shows that they exist in all four strike varieties is this true? For the 1983 Near Beads Variety, I have it in BU, PL, and Specimen Strike. Does it also exist in Proof? For the Far Beads variety, I have it only in Business Strike. Does it exist in PL, SP, and PR?

For the 1985 Pointed 5 Variety, does it exist in BU, PL, and SP, but not PR?

Charlton 2016 Vol 1 lists both varieties in all 4 finishes.

Charlton lists it just for circulation finish.

On a separate note, remember that not all sets contain BU (PL) finish coins. In 2006 they started putting circulation coins into the specialty sets (Birthday, O Canada etc). In 2011 even the standard pliofilm sets started to contain circulation strike coins and no more BU were struck starting this year. In 1996 & 1997 the standard pliofilm sets contained Specimen coins instead of BU.

Well, that explains the reason why my 1996 and 1997 Proof Like strikes from Mint sets look like Specimen strikes.

So, correct me if I am wrong, but the book says that the 1985 Pointed 5 variety is only possible in Business Strike BU from Bank Rolls, right? If this is true, then I need to correct my list.

Thank you very much for your help. :)

Yes-
The 1985 Pointed Five is only available as a business strike.
